HOLIDAY MAKEUP:
HOW TO GET THAT FLAWLESS KARDASHIAN GLAM DURING THE HOLIDAYS

It is starting to look a lot like Christmas... So the stress is getting REAL. Maybe you know this (maybe you don't), but besides my interests in media, culture & society, I am also obsessed with makeup. I obtained my MUA certificate in 2021, so I can officially call myself a makeup artist. It is no secret that creating makeup looks is one of my favorite things to do during the festive season. That is why I decided to write an article on the makeup tips of Kardashians' makeup artists for you guys. Read further, and find out how to create the most magical and flawless Christmas/New Years look!

SKIN PREP

Celebrity makeup artist Ash K. Holm works with stars like Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and more and stresses that prepping the skin is one of the most important steps to achieve a flawless look. "You really need to know your skin and how your skin reacts throughout the day," she clarifies. "Less is more sometimes because the foundation sticks better to the skin, and I think when we overdo it with skincare it kind of weighs it down, and it starts to break up the foundation throughout the day and separates."

Different skins require different types of skincare. For those with oily skin, Holm recommends following a simple skincare routine to prevent excess oil. "I would use a very lightweight moisturizer and keep it really simple in the skincare. And sometimes I don't even use a primer." And for those with normal to dry skin, Holm suggests prepping with a mix of face oil with a lightweight moisturizer.

ALWAYS START WITH THE EYES

Hold on to your makeup brushes... This tip comes straight from Kylie Jenner's makeup routine! Kylie's makeup artist Ariel recommends that the first step of your makeup routine should be eye makeup rather than foundation. This way, if the powder of your eyeshadow falls on your face, your makeup won’t be ruined. As a makeup artist, I agree with this tip! I also always start with the eyes first in case of fallout.

Kylie’s makeup artist Ariel also shares that he mixes a drop or two of face oil to his foundation, blending them on the back of his hand to use the warmth of his skin. Then, he taps the oil-foundation mix onto Kylie's skin using a foundation brush or wet beauty blender. Wetting the beauty blender before applying foundation or setting powder gives a flawless base, without the makeup looking cakey.

Do
NOT conceal first! Ariel explains: "You're going to go in with your foundation and move and blend the concealer shade you have on your face. So now your foundation is ashy and you've removed the concealer you applied. It's just a hot mess." Instead, he recommends applying a highlighter before the foundation, to achieve a natural glowy look. This change in order will make sure that you don't end up with this artificial makeup look and gives your skin a natural glow. The major areas where you should use highlighter are your cheekbones, tip of the nose, bridge of the nose, and Cupid’s bow.

CREAM > POWDER

The secret to enhancing the skin's radiance is choosing a crème or liquid highlight to get the perfect dewy glow. Just tap it on top of the cheeks, add onto the high points of the face, and you can even wear it on the eyelids. When putting the highlighter on the eyes, you will end up with a beautiful shimmer that everyone will notice!

Like your highlight, the formula of your blush is also very important. Crème blush is your new baby. What crème blush does for the skin, is it makes you look youthful and fresh, as opposed to powder blush. And you can even play around with the product! Use that same shade on the
eyes, cheeks, and lips, and see how your look comes together. One product for an almost full-face look... Who doesn´t want that?

You can fix anything... don't worry

When I started working as a makeup artist, I was sooo afraid of making mistakes. Kim Kardashian's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic taught me that mistakes can always be fixed. There is just one thing you need: concealer.

Concealer is not only used to conceal dark spots and blemishes. It can also be used to define and accentuate your brows, define the lips, lift the eyes, or sharpen that eyeliner you put on. It is the perfect product to fix mistakes and level up your makeup look. I use this tip daily, and I love it!

Call it a makeup secret or not. At the end of the day the KarJenners love having fun with their looks. They like to live their life on their own terms and often experiment with different looks, from hair to makeup. So don't be afraid to let loose. Have fun with your makeup!
